Welcome to today’s edition of our cinema blog! We're delving into the long, illustrious career of Ashok Saraf, an Indian actor, and comedian, whose multiple talents have graced both small and large screens for over five decades.


Born on June 4, 1947, in Mumbai, Ashok Saraf started his journey- in cinema with the Marathi movie "Janaki" in 1969. Best known for his work in Marathi films and theatre, as well as Hindi film productions, Saraf's partnership with illustrious actors like Laxmikant Berde, Sachin Pilgaonkar, and Mahesh Kothare gave birth to a golden era of comedy films in Marathi cinema. Pioneering movies such as "Ek Daav Bhutacha," "Dhoom Dhadaka," "Gammat Jammat," and "Ashi Hi Banawa Banavi" dominated the silver screen during the 1980s, achieving both critical acclaim and commercial success.


His career doesn’t stop at Marathi cinema, though. Saraf forged an impressive path in the Bollywood film industry, with unforgettable roles like Munshiji from "Karan Arjun," a friend in "Yes Boss," and a head constable in "Singham." He has worked with top-tier actors such as Govinda, Johny Lever, Shah Rukh Khan, and Kader Khan.
